Brain fog. Mush brain. Lack of blood flow to my brain. Oh the names that I have given you to explain the foggy moments that I have, since becoming a chronic illness warrior. I couldn't of just gotten one chronic illness that is known to cause brain fog but I was dealt with two illnesses. The first one being Rheumatoid Arthritis and the second being a little known illness called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome or POTS. POTS is a syndrome caused by a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system. The ANS controls all body functions that you don't have to think about doing. You know stuff like heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, vasoconstriction, and lots of other functions. Because of this standing is difficult, my body has a hard time getting blood flow to my brain and heart while I am in an upright position. Hence the lack of blood flow to the brain comment.
I understand that brain fog can be frustrating. Especially when you are trying to talk to that hot guy you just met and you forget what you are saying mid sentence. Or you show up for a doctors appointment to find out you are there at the wrong time. The stuttering. The constant feeling like your brain isn't working.
But...is it always a bad thing? Hear me out here. As someone who is a chronic illness warrior I know how sucky it can get when you always feel like poo. But I have found that some of these foggy moments are straight up hilarious. I love humor. I love to laugh. Laughing is my number one way of coping. If I am having a bad flare day the first thing I do is put on a comedy. Some how laughing lightens the load for a little bit.
So please join me in my foggy adventures and let the humor begin!

Trying to explain to other people about brain fog, or whatever always feels like I am trying to just make excuses for not remembering something someone told me or that I don't care enough to remember. Plus my dad had early onset Alzheimer's and was in a nursing home for 11 years and died 8 years ago.... so I never know what is from what.
